Over the weekend of the 6th and 7th of November. Yorkshire fielded two teams in the first ever British Classic Challenge Championships, held at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford. Yorkshire’s Bronze team performed on Saturday to finish a credible 6th with a score of 185.700. Gymnasts in the team gave some notable performances with team member Ella Rose Johnson – Whitehead taking the Silver medal on the bars.
Sunday saw Yorkshire’s Silver team take to the podium, unfortunately the team had lost a member that week due to injury, whilst another had fought back to compete only having a couple of sessions in the gym after having Covid. The team performed well despite carrying falls and pulled through to complete the competition. Yorkshire finished on rest in the final round of the event with the coaches waiting on tenterhooks watching the final scores come in. The Yorkshire Silver team finished with the most unexpected result of being awarded the Silver medal with a score of 182.000. An amazing achievement for the county, the gymnasts and coaches. Gymnasts within the team also achieved amazing individual titles. Abbie Grafton became the 2021 Silver Classic Challenge Champion also taking the Silver on the Vault. Team mate Georgia King took the Bronze All around and became the Silver bar Champion and Jessica Rodgers also came away with a Bronze medal on the Vault.
A brilliant weekend for all involved, showing great team work and camaraderie with some excellent support and feedback from officials.
